Ledakan gas terjadi di tambang batu bara Tabas di Provinsi Khorasan Selatan, Iran, menewaskan setidaknya 28 orang dan melukai 17 lainnya.
Dilansir media resmi Pemerintah Iran, sebagaimana dikutip Reuters, sebanyak 24 orang masih dinyatakan hilang dalam insiden yang terjadi pada Minggu (22/9/2024) tersebut.
Artinya, jumlah korban masih dapat bertambah. Adapun AFP melaporkan korban jiwa telah mencapai 30 orang.
Kecelakaan itu disebabkan oleh ledakan gas metana di dua blok tambang yang dikelola oleh perusahaan Madanjoo, kata TV pemerintah. Ada 69 pekerja di blok tersebut saat ledakan terjadi.
Tambang batu bara Tabas, terletak di Provinsi Khorasan Selatan, dikenal sebagai salah satu tambang batu bara terbesar di Iran. Tambang ini memainkan peran penting dalam produksi batu bara negara itu, dengan hasil produksinya digunakan untuk keperluan industri domestik dan ekspor.
Meski memiliki peran penting bagi perekonomian, tambang batu bara di Iran, seperti di banyak negara lain, memiliki risiko tinggi kecelakaan kerja akibat kondisi kerja yang keras dan terkadang kurangnya standar keselamatan yang memadai.
Kecelakaan di tambang-tambang Iran bukanlah hal baru. Pada 2017, ledakan di tambang batu bara Zemestan-Yurt di Provinsi Golestan, Iran utara, menewaskan 43 pekerja.
Insiden tersebut memicu kritik tajam terhadap standar keselamatan tambang di negara itu. Kecelakaan tambang seperti ini sering kali diakibatkan oleh akumulasi gas metana yang mudah terbakar di dalam tambang.
